Best-selling author Karen E. Quinones Miller has released “Passin’-a novel.” The age old debate over light skinned and dark skinned never goes away. One topic related to African-American culture is “passing.” Throughout history light skinned African-American’s have passed as being white. “Passin’” is the story of Shanika Ann Johnson. Shanika has blonde hair and blue eyes and can easily pass for white. As she grows up she discovers the advantages of being white. While working in New York City she falls in love with a powerful successful African-American man who believes that she is white. “Passin’” is an introspective novel. It’s a well written detailed novel that is easy to read.
