Just in time for the holidays Warner Video has released Thundercats Season Two, Volume Two on DVD. Thundercats was one of the most popular fantasy action oriented cartoons of the mid 1980’s along with Transformers and Voltron. The show only aired in syndication for two years. Despite it’s rather short run the show has become a cult classic and has never been forgotten. This DVD release includes episodes 35-65 of the season two episodes. This release wraps up the DVD releases of the shows original run therefore completing the series on DVD for collectors of the show DVDs. The set begins with the episode “Exile Isle†and ends with the episode “The Book of Omens.†These episodes all aired during the shows 1986 season.
If you purchased the previous season DVD box sets, this set is similar in design style. This set includes a holographic image that changes when you hold it at an angle. It’s pretty cool and freaky at the same time. Two discs are housed inside of each protective plastic case. The back of each case includes the episode name and number.
As with most Warner Video animated releases I am pleased with the Thundercats Season Two, Volume Two DVD box set. My only wish was that there was some kind of paper episode guide booklet included that provided a brief synopsis of the episode. It’s not that big of an issue though because there are plenty of Thundercat episode guides on the Internet that provide episode synopsis. The set is also a little big and wide in comparison to some slimmer DVD box sets on the market.
The picture and sound quality is pretty good. The picture isn’t quite as sharp and crisp as you might expect from a DVD release, but it’s decent for a 20 year old cartoon. I was satisfied to a degree. The running time for the set is over 11 hours. Special features include Thundercats Ultimate Adventure Challenge on Disc 12. This is an interesting trivia game that the die hard Thundercat fan will enjoy. Now remember this set doesn’t have 12 discs, but the numbering is a continuation of Season Two, Volume One.
Fans of the show will be pleased to complete their Thundercats DVD collection.
