St. Louis rapper Chingy has released his latest CD Hoodstar. The album was the highest charting rap CD the week it was released selling over 70,000 copies. The album was propelled by the radio and video friendly single “Pullin’ Me Back,†which features Tyrese.
Although, the CD is a single disc release, on the CD jacket Chingy splits up the release into two sections—Hood Side and Star Side. The Hood Side includes the street songs or perhaps the songs the fella’s will be feeling more. Featured artists on the “Hood†side include Three Six Mafia and new group Midwest City. The “hood side†is rather upbeat.
The “Star Side†is exciting as well. There are some good songs and some which are a bit forgettable. The “Star Side†opens with the second single “Dem Jeans,†and is followed by the smash hit “Pullin’ Me Back,†which features Tyrese. One of the highlights of the “Star Side†is the song “Brand New Kicks†which features Mannie Fresh. Featured artists on the “Star Side,†include Jermaine Dupri, Mr. Collipark, Spiffy, and Fatman Scoop.
Overall, Chingy’s Hoodstar is a pleasant listening experiences with some solid songs. The subject matter is pretty much the same—records sold, women, ballin’, boasting, the industry, and material things. Hoodstar was executive produced by Chingy himself.
